How to Stay Safe During a Tornado

Filed Under: Do It Yourself on June 19, 2009

tornado_nguyen_bigI live on the edge of “tornado alley.”  We are on the edge of the great plains at the eastern end of Wyoming here and tornado warnings this time of year are common.  One touched down north of here not too long ago, in fact, but no one was hurt.

If you live where tornadoes are a danger, you doubtless have been through the drills and know the routine.  Amazingly, though, I’ve found that there are a lot of people who don’t know anything about it.  They think that running into the basement will do the job.

Boy are they in for a surprise if the day ever comes.  Hopefully, they will have learned what they really should be doing by then.

I was going to write up a tornado “action list” of things to do in the event one is coming your way, but I found this awesome writeup at eHow instead.  Why re-write what’s already been well written?

So click here and read some simple steps and measures you can take to stay safe weatherbug_fullduring a tornado.

Also, if you’re in front of your computer most of the time (like me), you can get weather alerts on your desktop from several sources.  I prefer WeatherBug, which sits in the tray by the clock and chirps with a little flashing bug down there when an emergency alert has been issued.  It’s awesome and it’s free!  Click here to try it.
