The Good, The Bad, and the Pesticide Laden

gfxPesticidesThe Environmental Working Group is a research non-profit that also acts as a sort of watchdog on many environmental issues. They did a study on foods to see which ones had the highest amounts of pesticides on average and then ranked them in Dirty Dozen lists.

Skipping the 12 items on each of those lists (fruits, veggies) or finding organic alternatives to them can reduce the average American’s pesticide intake by up to 90%.

The study was conducted between 2000 and 2005 and involved 51,000 tests for pesticides on produce from common sources for U.S. grocery stores.  The worst of the 12 were peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, and celery.  The best were onions, avocado, frozen sweet corn, and pineapples.
