First Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft Takes to the Skies
Filed Under: Green Technology, zoomilife.com on September 4, 2009

The Antares DLR H2 is the first manned hydrogen fuel-cell aircraft to take flight, totally unassisted, in history. While hydrogen fuel-cell aircraft have flown before, the DLR H2 is the first to do so both without a hybrid engine and without an assist from another airplane to get airborne.
In fact, back in 2008, the earlier version of the Antares DLR H2 was the first hydrogen fuel-cell (only) aircraft to fly at all, but it had to do so with the assistance of another plane to get it off the ground and into the air.
This time around, the DLR H2 did it all on its own.
