Deconstructing Global Warming – Review
Filed Under: Green Politics on November 4, 2009
On October 26, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences Richard S. Lindzen of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology gave a speech to the Cooler Heads Coalition. In this presentation, Dr. Lindzen detailed and documented the close, intertwining relationship between climate science and global warming politics and propaganda.
A booklet (35 pages, PDF) of his speech, including the slides used, is available for download. Given the same title as his speech, Deconstructing Global Warming, the preface is as follows:
“Why do we need to deconstruct global warming? Simply because it has been an issue that has been routinely treated with misinformation and sophistry abetted by constant repetition, institutional endorsements, and widespread ignorance even (perhaps especially) among the educated. Because of the increasingly dangerous and expensive approaches being promoted to deal with this alleged problem, it is, I think, important to understand what is being said as well as to understand how climate actually works.”
This illustrates the point of Lindzen’s speech and gives the preface for his breakdown of how climate science and climate change theories have been hijacked by the global warming alarmists, especially Michael Hulme and the push for the creation of the United Nation’s new “scientific” body, the IPCC. He especially points out the salient points made in Hulme’s new book, Why We Disagree About Climate Change, in which Hulme acknowledges his pre-conceived notions and manipulation of science to create public policy.
Things like:
“The idea of climate change should be seen as an intellectual resource around which our collective and personal identities and projects can form and take shape. We need to ask not what we can do for climate change, but to ask what climate change can do for us.” (emphasis added)
If you’re a global warming believer or not, I highly recommend that you read this presentation from Lindzen. It’s free, formatted with an easy-to-read on-screen layout, and extremely informative. If you are a global warming believer, it may shake your opinions and make you check your sources. If you’re a global warming skeptic, it will give you more ammunition and information for battling the Gorebots.
