Some Site Updates Posted on November 8th, 2009
Just wanted to make a quick note to readers that a few things have changed on the site again. I’ve updated the Copyright information page, whose new title is (C), Reprint, Disclosure Info and the page includes a couple of editorial changes to the copyright/reprint information (for grammar and clarity) and the addition of a disclosure statement and policy to comply with FTC rules.
The reprint updates didn’t change the policy substantially, only clarified it some. I was asked by someone to clear up some confusion when she wanted to reprint one of my articles on her site and wasn’t sure whether she had to put my name on it or put my namd AND a link back on it. As it was written, I could see the source of the confusion and have clarified that (both are required).
The new disclosure statement and policy is pretty simple. Yes, this site attempts to make an income. All sources of that income are clearly marked as such or are obviously such by general Internet/Web standards. Graphical ads are obvious. AdSense/text ads are also relatively obvious as being such.
Though I don’t think I’ve done it up to this point, I may include affiliate links occasionally in some of my writeups, when it fits the subject matter. Those will always be clearly marked as being affiliate-compensated links. Finally, paid reviews is another subject. I have always had a policy of clearly marking a paid review as being such on every site I own. Here, I think I have only done one and that was some time ago. Most of the reviews I write for this site are unpaid, non-compensated, honest opinions.
