Talking With Joanne Nova

jonova-handbookpageI didn’t conduct an interview or anything, but sent an email to Joanne Nova (JoNova) to complement her on her booklet The Skeptic’s Handbook and give her a link to my own.  I mentioned a few things to introduce The Sustainability Factor and asked that she give me any critique she might have if she gets a chance to read through it.

I was amazed that within a few hours (she’s in Australia, I’m in Wyoming, you know), she responded.  This woman must get thousands of emails a day, she has a handbook that’s been translated into several languages, and she writes thoughtful, science-based posts and articles.  Yet she answered my email in a few hours.

What’s more, we had an actual conversation.  Mrs. Nova is very nice, encouraging, and she produces great layman explanations of scientific information.  Which is good for me, since I’m not a scientist and get bored easily when something is written in a dry, academic way.  Joanne pointed out to me that you don’t need to be a scientist to talk about scientific information and most PhD’s don’t really know what they’re going on about anyway. (I’m paraphrasing here, I think she just said the first part.)

Which I agree with, of course (especially the second part).

At any rate, I just wanted to say thanks to Mrs. Nova for her great work, for being a real person (Al Gore still hasn’t written me back, that snob), and to recommend that everyone get a copy of her two handbooks.  They’ll give you plenty to consider when you look at the idea of man-made global warming.

I will, of course, be doing reviews of both the Skeptic’s Handbook and Climate Money in the near future.
