DIY Christmas Series – Cool Weekend Holiday Crafts, Pt 2

Filed Under: Do It Yourself on December 12, 2009

Yesterday, I showed you some cool DIY holiday decorations for your enjoyment.  Well, if you missed that one, go back and read it and hurry up about it.  It’s Saturday and you’re already a day behind on this weekend holiday crafts thing.  Sheesh.  Then come back here when you’re done.

Alright, now that we’ve dealt with the slackers, let’s get down to business.  Time for another slew of great holiday do-it-yourself projects for the weekend.  It’s Saturday, so you have all day.  May as well finish it off so you can clean up the mess you made tomorrow.  Right?  Awesome.

This is an ultra-cool, 3-D snowflake design that is totally killer. It’s pretty easy to do too and the Instructable author who made it calls himself “supercoolio” (versus “super culo”).  This is a 6-pointed star in three dimensions made MDtreewith regular paper (the author even used a sex-ed packet), some staples, and tape.  Awesome.

Here’s one for all you Mountain Dew guzzlers out there. Got a huge collection (or trash full of) empty Dew bottles?  Well, put all that tweaking energy to use then and build yourself a tree.  Note: you’re going to need like 250 empties, so you might have to go out into the garage for yesterday’s trash too.

Another advantage is that this one puts all of your empties in one spot for easy recycling after the holidays.  Right?  That rocks.  Now go here to find out how to build your own ultra-cool Christmas tree from empty soda bottles. Way cooler than the Rolling Rock and Killians tree ornaments we had when I was in college.

Here’s another cool one for those of you who want to give Santa a subtle hint on the big night. In fact, I’m amazed I never thought of this when I was a kid.  I was too obvious.

I had a Christmas stockings that was the size of a sleeping bag.  My mom gave me access to her sewing machine and said “make your Christmas stocking.”  She was trying to get rid of me and give me something to do so I’d stop trying to blow stuff up or burn down the house or whatever it is that 8 year old boys with too much time on their hands do.

So I sewed up a Christmas stocking from a huge bolt of blue fluffy cloth she had and made it the size of a sleeping bag.  It wasn’t half bad and the cool glued-on buttons (from her button jar) I used to spell out my name in giant letters didn’t hurt either.

Well, this idea is a little less greedy-appearing, but still gets the point across to Mr. Clause.  It’s an expanding, accordion-like Christmas stocking!  How cool is that?!  Hell ya.

What about those Christmas cards you have to send out? Why not make those yourself and make them look cool too?  Here’s a cool Instructable for making a pop-up angel card.  Your mom will love it.  Plus, this one has a video.  CDornamentThat’s all I’m gonna say about that.  Make your mom proud and make her a DIY card.

How about Christmas ornaments from CDs? If you have a roommate or a sister or whatever that listens to lame music, why not steal some of their crappy discs and make them into ornaments?  Hot diggity, this will solve two problems at once!  So grab those lame Mariah Carey and Celine Dion compact discs and start crackin’ with this awesome Instructable from gmoon.

Almost as cool as when I took my little sister’s stupid UB40 tape and recorded Weird Al Yankovic over the top of it.  haha, that was awesome.

What about a Christmas tree ornament from golf tees? Cool.  Plus, this is a combination tree ornament and ninja weapon.  You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see this woopass ornament Instructable.

Well, that’s enough stuff, boys and girls, to keep you busy for the rest of the weekend.  Remember to keep it safe and don’t sue me when you lose a finger trying some of this stuff.  I am not responsible for your lack of scissor control.
