DIY Low-Tech Vertical Farm and Food Storage Information
Filed Under: Uncategorized on March 18, 2010
I found a couple of very cool links that I think should be shared. The first is for an easy to build do-it-yourself vertical farm made from mostly recycled/repurposed materials. The other is a great resource for finding out how long you can store specific foods for and in what manner.
This one is really cool. It comes from Low-Tech Magazine and is a complete do-it-yourself for building a simple vertical garden plot using plastic soda bottles, some tubing, and dirt and plants. Very cool and very easy! So if you live in an apartment, have no yard, or otherwise think you can’t grow vegetables easily, think again! You now have no excuses.
Food Storage
Ever wonder how long you can freeze cheese for? How about how long you can keep that open jar of homemade strawberry preserves in the fridge? What’s the best way to store lettuce to keep it fresh, longer?
All those questions and more are answered in one easy resource here. It’s easy, cool, and free! StillTasty.com is an awesome resource for learning about food storage in today’s lifestyles. Eat healthy, eat well, and learn to make your food last longer.

I recently read a new york times article about upside down gardening. You grow plants up side down and you hang them on something. It looks awesome.
I wish I had known about this is college. I desperately wanted fresh herbs and veggies, but had nowhere to plant them.
