Easy DIY Conversion to a Dual-Flush Toilet

Filed Under: Do It Yourself on April 26, 2010

A friend of mine, Gadget42, sent me some links showing how to convert a standard toilet into a water-saving dual-flush for about $30.  Pretty cool.

For those who don’t know, a dual-flush toilet is a relatively new type of toilet that has two flush types.  For liquids (urine), it can be flushed with a lighter swirl that quickly drains the bowl and uses very little water from the tank.  For solids (poop), it does a normal flush cycle.  This can potentially save a lot of water and save the eco-conscious from “leaving it in the bowl” until there’s “enough” to flush.

A nasty idea.

The conversion can be done on most any toilet and there are several kits available from a lot of sources.  Like this one on Amazon.

For instructions on how to install a kit easily, here is a great HubPage on it and here is a nice LifeHacker on it as well.

Tons of thanks to Gadget42 for the links and information!
