O the Irony

Pictured is one of those atomizer pump bottles of RoundUp that you can get in the stores now.  They’re built to be all-in-one so all you have to do is pull out the wand, pump the handle a few times, and start spraying Agent Orange all over the place.

I was driving down the street the other day and saw someone in town throwing one of these into the dumpster.  It occurred to me that I need an atomizer for killing weeds so I don’t add anything potentially harmful to my garden atomizer for spraying soapy water, plain water, or even compost tea. So after buying the gazillion bags of dog food I needed, I went back.

As usual, I figured “why buy one when I can get one right there for free?”  So I dove into the dumpster and pulled it out.

Now for the irony…

That 1.5 gallon RoundUp atomizer is now full of… vinegar.  HA!  Stickin’ it to the man twice over!  Not only did I not buy his Agent Orange in a bottle, but I didn’t buy a plastic atomizer unit either!  BWAAAHAHAHA!  It now sees service as our weed sprayer elite.  Vinegar is an awesome weed killer, it’s cheap, and it doesn’t hurt anything you don’t spray it directly on.

If the dog eats the weed that’s been sprayed with vinegar.. no prob.

Kids running through the yard and face-planting into your just-sprayed-with-vinegar weed patch?  It’ll taste bad, but otherwise, no problemo.

Accidentally over-sprayed and got a chunk of lawn too?  Oh well, the dirt will be OK in a few days or after the next watering and you might be able to flood the area selectively to wash out the vinegar before it kills the grass’ roots.

Take that, Monsanto!
