Alphabet Photography Set

Filed Under: Product Reviews on June 9, 2011

This is a very cool idea.  It’s basically a large set of photographic images that represent letters of the alphabet.  So a peaked arch becomes an “A” and a door handle might become a “P”.  Look at the photo here and you’ll get what I mean.

It’s very creative and opens up possibilities for a lot of cool artwork.  The set of images also includes a bunch of great background and accent graphics you can use to build things for printing.

For this review, I printed several alphabet letters and a couple of background mattes and set up words for my daughter Heidi, including her name, her sister’s name, and words like “cat,” dog,” and so forth.  She was very entertained.

Of course, being 16 months old, she is also very hands on.  Thus, the camera was not fast enough to capture much.  Sorry about that.

Here’s what I did if you’re interested in seeing how it could work for your fun project at home.  Both of these examples were made using simple graphics editing software and required no skills beyond cutting and pasting:

The first is for Adelyn, our youngest (6 months).  I simply chose letters from the several options that are in the file (there are many of each) and added them together to spell the word.  In our hands-on play, I just chose letters and sent them to the printer where they automatically size to fit a page (these graphics are VERY large, so you have plenty to work with).

The second one involved loading a background image from the mattes included.  I then pulled letters individually and re-sized them to make the layout you see, just pasting them on top of the bricks.  This one was more of an experiment and I never printed it.

Very cool stuff and VERY fun.  Most of the graphics are about 1500 pixels wide and 2200 or so tall.  This means you could easily use them to create t-shirts, small banners, signs, and more.

One of the coolest things I’ve seen in quite a while.
