Putting the MENTAL into Environmental – Welcome to Aaron’s EnvironMental Corner
My name is Aaron Turpen and here on my EnvironMental Corner, I write about real issues, real technologies, and my real thoughts about them. I include no false journalism, no political correctness, it’s just me telling it like I see it. Sometimes there’s beer involved.
After reading this blog, you’ll likely notice that I’m a libertarian-minded person. I believe in the power of markets to make change and have seen little good come from government “intervention” to “fix” things. If we, as thinking humans, really want to see change in our world and environment, we’ll make it happen without needing to resort to the force that is government.
At the same time, I’ve seen most “green” proponents follow the path of Al Gore (I call these people Gorebots), attempting to pressure government into forcing their views on everyone else. Not only do many of these people seem to think that all technologies invented after the 19th century are evil, but humans themselves need to go. Except for them, of course.
These people make a religion out of “global warming” and follow their messiah, Al Gore, mindlessly. These same people appear to be the ones who ardently believe that Obama can do no wrong. I can’t think of anything more mindless. Amazingly, I first ran into one of these people when Gore was still Vice President and global warming was a fledgling theory.
At that time, I told this someone that I preferred to consider global warming from all perspectives and didn’t think there was enough evidence to support the theory. No honest debate ensued. Instead, this person spat the word “Bushie” at me (meaning Bush, Sr.) and told me I was a moron.
I now run into those people on a regular basis. It’s a growing phenomenon. The new hippie movement of Generations X and Y, I guess. Mindless morons who think with their bongs and not their brains. I know how this works. I was once like that, though I was much younger and dumber at the time. Sadly, they are now gaining traction in government and affecting policy.
I see no good coming from that.
So I started this blog to put out not only real world information on climate change, environmentalism, and so forth, but also to give some ideas on actual sustainability and real environmentalism. I call it being environmental by focusing on the Mental. Common sense escapes those who wish to destroy our world in order to save it.
There are plenty who don’t agree with me, of course. If you’re one of them, feel free to give me your dissenting opinion either through comments on my blog posts or directly through email. If you’re civilized about your concerns and thoughts, I’ll respond. If not, I’ll ignore you. Read here for more on that.
Just remember: the real price of freedom is not warfare and death; the real price of freedom is having to listen to opinions you don’t agree with. To be truly free, we must be both open minded and tolerant.
Use the link at left to subscribe via RSS to this blog and get updates in your reader or email. If you’re into Twitter, you can follow me at this link. Fair warning, though, that’s my personal Twitter account and not one made specifically for this site, so I talk about LOTS of stuff that aren’t necessarily part of this blog. It’s fun, though. Same goes for my Facebook profile, which you can look at and friend at this link, if you’d like. To follow this site’s official Twitter account, go here.
Last but not least, you’ll note that there is a “Donate” button on the left side bar. If you enjoy this blog, my thoughts, or the free downloads I provide, and you can spare it, a few dollars my way will keep me going. I do this blog out of love, though I can’t say I haven’t planned to profit from it. Despite that wish, I have yet to see a profit model that fits my philosophy. Until now.
My model is simple: everything here is free for you. Read, comment, peruse, share, etc. to your heart’s content. If you would like to help me keep this effort going, send me a donation. No amount is too small or too large. If you don’t have anything to spare, don’t worry about it. I know how that is.
Thanks for your support both monetary and spiritual. Each of us is a vehicle of change. So let’s get driving.
